چکیده

Previous studies consistently indicate measurable local associations between alcohol and drug usage and the incidence of violence, which reveal the importance of spatial analysis in the study of alcohol, drugs, and violence. While studies increasingly incorporate spatial correlation among model residuals to improve model performance, many analyses assume associations that are constant across a study area, an assumption that has come under scrutiny in the statistics and geography literature. In this paper, we compare and contrast two approaches for the estimation of potentially spatially varying regression effects. Specifically, we provide a comparison of a geographically weighted regression (GWR) model with a Bayesian spatially varying coefficient process model, where comparable spatial dependence functions are used. We compare the approaches with respect to conceptual structures, computational implementation, and inferential output. We apply both approaches to model the relationships of violent crime with illegal drug arrest and alcohol sales data from Houston, Texas and compare their results. We also present results of diagnostic tools for

Comparison of Geographically Weighted Regression and Regression Kriging to Estimate the Spatial Distribution of Aboveground Biomass of Zagros Forests

Aboveground biomass (AGB) of forests is an essential component of the global carbon cycle. Mapping above-ground biomass is important for estimating CO2 emissions, and planning and monitoring of forests and ecosystem productivity. Remote sensing provides wide observations to monitor forest coverage, the Landsat 8 mission provides valuable opportunities for quantifying the distribution of above-g...

Quantifying geographic variations in associations between alcohol distribution and violence: A comparison of geographically weighted regression and spatially varying coefficient models

Past studies consistently indicate measurable local associations between alcohol distribution and the incidence of violence. These results, coupled with measurements of spatial correlation, reveal the importance of spatial analysis in the study of the interaction of alcohol and violence. While studies increasingly incorporate spatial correlation among model residuals to improve precision and re...

Comparison of the Performance of Geographically Weighted Regression and Ordinary Least Squares for modeling of Sea surface temperature in Oman Sea

In Marine discussions, the study of sea surface temperature (SST) and study of its spatial relationships with other ocean parameters are of particular importance, in such a way that the accurate recognition of the SST relationships with other parameters allows the study of many ocean and atmospheric processes. Therefore, in this study, spatial relations modeling of SST with Surface Wind Speed (...

Spatial Varying Coefficient Regression Model For Relative Risk Factors of Esophageal Cancer Patients

In conventional methods for spatial survival data modeling, it is often assumed that the coefficients of explanatory variables in different regions have a constant effect on survival time. Usually, the spatial correlation of data through a random effect is also included in the model. But in many practical issues, the factors affecting survival time do not have the same effects in different regi...

Housing Sub-markets and Hedonic Price Analysis: A Bayesian Approach

Sub-market definition has been identified as an important step in hedonic price analysis, to improve price predictions as well as estimates of marginal prices. Early market segmentation procedures were based on various definitions of housing or neighbourhood type. With the advent of new technologies (e.g. GIS), and statistical techniques (e.g. spatial models, clustering techniques), more sophis...
